Crocheting Christening Gowns

Crocheting a christening gown and making it a gift to the child on the day of his christening is definitely a great idea, but you need a good deal of time invested to create it properly. Here we are sharing a few ideas about crocheting christening gowns to help you out. With the help of white worsted-weight yarn and a size G crochet hook, you can design a wonderful christening gown. Start with crocheting the yoke, and then make the skirt from there. You will need some ribbon accents or beads to accessorize the dress.

  • First of all, build the yoke. Chain 50, and then build a double crochet stitch in the fourth chain from hook and in every chain across. In this way, you have to make a total of 48 double crochet stitches. For the second row, chain one and turn. Now, you have to alternate between making half double crochet stitches in three stitches across then making two half double crochet stitches in the following stitch. Repeat this pattern across the row in four steps. U this way you have to create the yoke.
  • Then you need to shape the sleeves. Start with row six. Half double crochet in the first 12 stitches and then chain five, and skip 20 stitches. Then half double crochet across the next 24 stitches. This time, you have to chain five again, and skip 20 stitches. Half double crochet across the final 12 stitches, and now join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet stitch. In this way, the armholes of the dress are created.
  • Now it’s the time to crochet the skirt. Start making two half double crochet stitches in every stitch around to get the fullness to the skirt. Now for the subsequent rows, make one-half double crochet stitch in every stitch around. Continue the same process until the skirt reaches the required length.
  • Now attach your yarn with a slip stitch to the first of the five chains you made. Now make single crochet stitches around each sleeve, including the five chain stitches you made and the 20 stitches you skipped. For the second round of the sleeves, repeat the shell stitch pattern from the end of the skirt.
  • Now turn the dress around and see how the back of the yoke is looking. Attach your yarn at the corner of the yoke very close to the collar, and do one round of single crochet stitches around the neckline, down the back split and also the other side of the split from where it was started. Finally attach beautiful accessories to embellish the dress.
